Al Fahidi Fort was built in several phases. The oldest tower was built around 1787 and believed to be the oldest building in Dubai that still exists today, it was built from the sea rocks and gypsum to defend the city.
Inside Fahidi fort, you will feel the cooling effect of an old wind tower; wander past cabinets housing traditional old Arabic khanjars (curved daggers) as well as musical instruments dated 300 BC. While in the basement you could view film of Dubai dated 1930’s, Dubai market life from 1950s, Dubai desert life, and learn how the early pearl divers risked their lives for the bounty of the Gulf water. Pots, weapons, tombs, jewellery found during the third century BC. then you will pass by the colorful textile Souq, ( Souq in Arabic language means market ), stop at the gold & jewllery souq , you will be amazed at the sheer volume of dazzling gold jewelery.
